“I’m with the band” may sound smoother than “I’m with the dance company,” although either could be stated from the performers of the new work Move Thru Me, a collaboration of Christine Cali’s Cali & Co Dance and Matthew Langlois’s The Welcome Matt band. A hybrid of rock-n-roll and modern dance, the songs and material respond to the pursuit of living a creative life and the challenges and realities of an ongoing artistic practice. Prior to joining forces on the project about a year ago, Cali and Langlois have each worked as independent artists for more than 15 years. With performances scheduled at a variety of venues and online music videos available, the project makes itself available to the community in a number of ways.
Excerpts from Move Thru Me will be featured on the down to earth program concluding Cali’s residency at The Garage with performances this Wednesday, December 15 and Thursday, December 16 at 8pm ($10-$20 tickets ). Move Thru Me will also be performed January 22 at Cafe du Nord and February 18-20 at Dance Mission Theater.
This collaboration includes a full-length CD/soundtrack of the work with music and dance videos for each co-written song by Cali and the Welcome Matt. And as with any good concert tour, T-shirts are available. Watch the first video of the series:
